63-Year-Old Man Dead after Two-Vehicle Collision near 805 Freeway in Chollas View

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 17, 2023) – Early Sunday afternoon, Fidel Gallardo was killed in a head-on accident on Market Street.

The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m., at the 4500 block of Market Street in the neighborhood of Chollas View.

Per reports, Gallardo was driving a westbound 1993 Nissan Maxima when he crossed over the center divider line for reasons unknown. As a result, the Nissan struck an oncoming Lexus RX350 SUV head-on in the eastbound lanes.

Paramedics arrived and transported the 63-year-old Gallardo, of Lemon Grove to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

In addition, crews say the two occupants inside the Lexus escaped serious injury.

San Diego Officials closed down Market Street between 45th and 47th Street for several hours as crews clear out the scene. At this time, authorities are working to determine if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the fatal head-on crash.
