0 1The Christmas Eve tradition is back: Fiddler On The Roof Sing-Along screenings! Norman Jewison’s 1971 Oscar-winning musical will be shown at four Laemmle theaters in L.A. on Friday. Based on stories by Yiddish author and playwright Sholem Aleichem, the Broadway musical was a revelatory hit thanks to its music. The film is just as great, maybe even better as Jewison’s cinematography and score evoke a grittier, more realistic look at the life of the main character Tevye– a poor Jewish milkman living in the small Russian town of Anatevka who must marry off his five daughters amidst village discord and drama.

Theatrically released in 1971, the film grossed $83.3 million worldwide and cost $9 million to make and was nominated for  Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and more. After cancellation last year, the sing-along is back with extra precautions: these events will have reserved and one-seat lateral spacing between parties, reduced capacity, and mandatory masks. Fri., Dec. 24. Theaters include: NoHo 7, 5240 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood; Newhall, 22500 Lyons Ave., Santa Clarita; Royal, 11523 Santa Monica Blvd., L.A.; and Playhouse 7, 673 East Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
