Fatal Collision on Dogwood Road in El Centro

EL CENTRO, CA (August 6, 2021) – Tuesday afternoon, Fernanda Martinez was killed following a two-vehicle crash on Willoughby Road.

The accident happened around 3:36 p.m., on August 3. Officers arrived to the scene near Dogwood Road shortly after.

According to the CHP, a maroon Jeep Compass traveling eastbound on Willoughby Road collided with a white pickup truck.

As a result of the collision, both vehicles ended up in the Central Main Canal.

An Imperial County Deputy sheriff police arrived around 3:40 p.m., and located the vehicles in the water. According to reports, the Jeep was completely submerged with people inside.

Around 4:08 p.m., emergency crews had discovered the deceased victim in the water half a mile west of the collision. Unfortunately, medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

There were no other injuries reported, and it is still unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

Police did not release any additional information at this time. However, the accident remains under investigation.
