Dear criminals: There's no such thing as an easy target. You just never know.

Case in point: A 19-year-old woman took down a would-be purse snatcher and held him until cops arrived, the Burbank Police Department said.

It happened at 11:37 a.m. today in the 300 block of East Olive Avenue in Burbank, police said in a statement:

Arriving officers found a 19-year-old female detaining a man at the scene. The woman reported that she was walking when the man, who is identified as 24-year-old Manuel Martinez of Los Angeles, approached her and tried to take her purse. The woman told officers she held onto her purse and punched the man two times, knocking him to the ground.

Don't all cheer at once. And no, the woman wasn't Ronda Rousey.

It happened just a block from police headquarters and just around the corner from City Hall.

This manly man (5 feet, 4 inches, 140 pounds) of a suspect remained in jail today based on bail of $50,000, according to Los Angeles Sheriff's Department inmate records.

Cops say they arrested Martinez on suspicion of attempted robbery. He was due in Burbank Superior Court Tuesday.

In the meantime, the Burbank police statement advised people not to be heroes, even if you're a kick-ass teenager:

… Always be aware of your surroundings, avoiding areas where you might be alone. Carry your purse or handbags close to your body and under your exterior clothing (i.e. jacket), if possible. Purse flaps should be secured/clasped shut and turned toward your body. While in this case the victim was able to maintain control of her property and detain the suspect, the Burbank Police Department urges folks to hold their personal safety as the paramount concern and not struggle with assailants, as property can always be replaced.
