Woman Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Crash near 80 Freeway

SAN PABLO, CA (January 13, 2022) – A female pedestrian died early Monday morning after a fatal collision on El Portal Drive.

According to California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:55 a.m., near the on-ramp to 80 Freeway.

Police said the woman, whose identity is yet to be released, was walking across the El Portal Drive on-ramp to westbound Interstate 80. There, a Ford F150 pick-up struck the woman.

The truck driver attempted to save the woman by attempting to transport her to a hospital. However, the woman died and the driver stopped in the area of 12th Street and Barrett Avenue in Richmond to call authorities.

Based on their initial investigation, police said drugs or alcohol was not a factor. No further details regarding the incident are public at this time.
