Fatal Two-Vehicle Accident near Ashlan Avenue Kills Clovis Resident

FRESNO, CA (August 17, 2021) – Authorities identified Felipe Garay as the victim of a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 99, on Saturday.

The fatal incident occurred around 8:15 a.m., on the southbound lanes near Ashlan Avenue, according to the police.

Investigators determined that Garay’s Honda Civic struck a Caltrans sweeper crew, causing a chain reaction crash. Per reports, the crew was working on street sweeping when the Honda driver struck the rear of the Caltrans vehicle.

Upon impact, the Honda spun out of control and into another lane, hitting a semi-truck and a school bus without children onboard.

Eventually, paramedics transported Garay to Community Regional Medical Center with critical wounds. Due to the extent of his condition, 31-year-old Garay succumbed to his injuries later on.

At this time, the Fresno Officials are working to identify the factors that contributed to the deadly crash.
