Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a federal partnership with the Biden-Harris administration, to open a COVID-19 vaccination site at California State University, Los Angeles.

The vaccination site will be run by both the state and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), but will plan to hire staff at a local level to vaccinate up to 6,000 people per day.

“The whole idea is to speed up the the through put, the efficiency—maintain an equitable lens in terms of the application and distribution of the vaccine,” Newsom said, Wednesday. “We are blessed not only by the announcement of this partnership with the Biden administration, but their full federal support in terms of the allocation of the resources to help us move forward with the distribution of these vaccines.”

The Oakland Coliseum will also be opening a federally-partnered site.

To make appointments for both sites, the state is turning to the “My Turn” application, which has been piloted in both Los Angeles and San Diego, in website form.

Building of the sites are underway and expected to open on Feb. 16.
