One of the city’s most decadent club environs, the dark sanctuary known as Ruin, debuts its new bimonthly schedule this week (every second and fourth Saturday) with a theme night that couldn’t have a more timely bite: THE TWILIGHT VAMPIRE BALL. Yes, vamps are all the rage these days thanks to True Blood and Twilight mania, but for this club crowd, the fascination with blood-suckers goes back nearly as far as the fanged ones themselves. DJ Xian and Baron spin Dark Indie, Dark ’80s, Tribal, World Fusion, Ethereal, NeoClassical, Synthpop and Downtempo sounds to bring the fangs out on the floor. Vampy contest at midnight; absinthe bar; candid club photography (for those whose image will appear on film). Montecristo, 3100 Wilshire Blvd., L.A.; Sat., Nov.14; over 21; $10. LADEAD.com. Another fanciful dance fete of note has begun in Hollywood on a weekly basis: Lucent Dossier Experience’s GATEWAY 11.11, which sees the popular performance troupe bringing its interactive fantasy world to a new space (Lucent was formerly at the Edison). Expect Lewis Carroll–like enchantment, and prepare to be part of it as well. Each week, the Gateway will feature a guest DJ, and this Wednesday it’s underground house maven Porter Tinsley. H’Wood, 1738 N. Orange St., Hlywd.; Wed., Nov. 18 and every Wed. after; lucentdossier.com.
