KCRW BROADCAST #124 for Saturday, July 23.

Fanatics! Another week, another great show lined up for you! I am listening down to the songs at this moment and it's going to be an excellent night of jams.

I wanted to make a show that rocked out but had some quiet dynamics. I am really liking this album by Procedure Club called Doomed Forever. I have been playing it all week and so I thought it would be good to bring in a track to play for you. We have not checked in with the Eddy Current Suppression Ring in a long time, so I figured we had better take care of that. A nice Zappa / Beefheart combination happens soon afterwards.

If you check tracks 13 and 14, you will see that we have a little call and response going on with the song titles. Wait until you hear this great acapella track by the Volumes, might be my favorite track from the entire night. It's great to play Jeremy's remix of “I Put A Spell On You.” I am usually not all that interested in remixes but this one is really cool.

Also, we are putting a new Horrors track into the mix tonight. As far as I know, promos of their new album, Skying, have not been sent out yet. At least nothing has been sent to me. The track we're playing tonight is the one that has been making the rounds on other people's shows at the station, so I reckon it's ok to play it. I have played the album a few times through now and it has not grown on me as of yet. I am keeping an open mind.

This is a great night of hot weather music. My place is a brick oven in the afternoon and it doesn't cool off all that much at night. Hopefully this show will provide some distraction from the heat.

I thought the below might be of interest.

New Book Dept.: Simon Reynolds, the great music writer has released a new book called Retromania. I am a good way into it and just like his other books, Retromania is a well considered and worthwhile read. You never know, he may just show up and substitute for me one of these nights. Here's an SR interview.

I hope you are able to tune and hang out with us from 6 to 8 pm at 89.9 KCRW. Stay cool and STAY FANATIC!!! –Henry
