He used a badge to threaten, falsely imprison and coerce women in Hollywood, prosecutors alleged. In at least one case, they claimed, he fondled a victim.

But Joseph Christoph Moore, 39, isn't a cop, authorities indicated.

Prosecutors say the defendant from Anaheim impersonated a police officer to contact two women in Hollywood recently. He flashed a badge and, in one incident, pulled a gun before fondling a victim, they said.

The brandishing happened Nov. 24 in the 6100 block of De Longpre Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

A second incident happened Nov. 30 in the 500 block of North Kingsley Drive, prosecutors said. Details were scant.

The case against Moore includes allegations of assault with intent to commit a felony, making criminal threats, false imprisonment by violence, unlawful use of a badge and sexual battery.

“The complaint alleges personal use of a gun and prior convictions,” the DA's office said in a statement.

If Moore is successfully convicted he could face life behind bars, prosecutors said.

The Los Angeles Police Department still has an open case on the suspect, the office said. That could explain the lack of detail in the case so far.

Prosecutors said they'd ask for $1.2 million bail. Moore was expected to enter a plea today.
