Multi-Car Accident near Clarendon Avenue Killed One Woman

PHOENIX, AZ (January 6, 2023) – Sunday afternoon, police responded to a crash that claimed the life of Faila Butunga.

Per initial reports, the collision happened just after 3:30 p.m., January 1st, in the area of 51st and Clarendon Avenues, just south of Indian School Road.

According to police, the crash involved at least three vehicles and 72-year-old Butunga was found by the officers with serious wounds on the roadway.

Furthermore, Butunga was transported immediately to a hospital, but was later pronounced dead due to the extent of her injuries.

Investigation showed that a vehicle occupied by a driver and Butunga was traveling south on 51st Avenue and veered onto the northbound lanes.

In addition, their vehicle crashed into a car driven by a teenager which caused a chain reaction of collisions.

Moreover, the two occupants of Butunga’s vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Meanwhile, all involved drivers were tested for impairment but none showed any signs. Weather is believed to be the factor of the crash and an active investigation is underway.
