Blacking out on the weekends usually is a forgettable experience — by definition. But the Blackout hosted by nonprofit Free L.A. — a multimedia, one-night-only event — promises to be anything but. The Blackout is an extension of the organization's mission: to showcase and nurture up-and-coming arts and entertainment talent. Now in its second year, this edition, called Blackout: The Prototype, features a plethora of young artists from the fields of comedy, dance and music. Highlighted musical performers include DJ Vicious Lee and Paradym M.G. The Blackout is free to enter, but vendors will be shilling their wares, and purchases are cash only. The event is meant for teens and above — only those 14 and older are permitted. The Mark for Events, 9320 W. Pico Blvd., West L.A.; Fri., July 12, 6 p.m.; free, RSVP required.
