One of the biggest surprises of the post-'80s era is how hugely influential Depeche Mode–the on-paper difficult band that peddled adult sexual fantasies to several generations of goth-inclined teens–turned out to have been.

Go to any club where the syntheratti congregate and chances are every other song sounds like it could easily segue into “I Just Can't Get Enough” (ahem, Cold Cave).
