Dennis RomeroIf it seems that, as you enjoy the smell of grilled hot dogs and the vision of tanned bodies on the Fourth of July, everyone is drunk, they pretty much are.
New data released by smartphone-connected breathalyzer firm BACtrack shows that the average blood alcohol content level for the summer holiday is .079, just a hair under the .08 legal limit for DUI. The data is based on an analysis of 100,000 tests over the span of a year.
That's a lot of patriotic boozing:

Keep in mind, however, that the the info is also based on input from people who probably drink frequently, since they're owners of $100-plus personal breathalyzers.
But, still, it's sobering news.

The Fourth, while awash in beer, isn't the drunkest time of year, according to BACtrack's data. That distinction belongs to New Year's Eve, which had an average blood alcohol content level of .095.
Super Bowl Sunday (0.087), Valentine's Day (0.081) and Fourth of July (0.079) take the next three spots in that drunken race, according to BACtrack. Other non-holidays Halloween (0.056) and St. Patrick's Day (.057) scored moderately.
Los Angeles (.071) made the list of the 10 cities with the lowest blood alcohol content levels.

And California (.069) made the bottom 15 states with the lowest blood alcohol content levels.
Lightweights.
