Pattern Language: Recent Paintings by Peter Zellner & Tyler McMartin
4301 W Jefferson Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90016
September 7 – 28, 2019
Opening Saturday, September 7, 6 – 9 PM with a special performance by O FUTURE
4301 W Jefferson Blvd is pleased to present Pattern Language, an exhibition of recent paintings by Peter Zellner & Tyler McMartin. Over 70 new works will be exhibited in a vast 5,000 SF former industrial space along the West Adams gallery row in Los Angeles. Architects Zellner and McMartin have a 9-year working relationship. This is their first non-architectural collaboration.
With two sensibilities at play, Pattern Language exposes an interchange between abstraction and expression in painting: among the works and in communication with the viewer. The exhibition features medium to large-scale canvases and works on paper, displayed from the walls and floating over the gallery floor.
In the main gallery at 4301 W Jefferson Blvd, Zellner will show an exuberant, hyperchromatic palette rendered in enamel, acrylic and tempera paints. McMartin will show evocative monochromes in specialty, intense black pigment. Precedent works will be on display in a project room accessed from Jefferson Boulevard.
Pattern Language is on view at 4301 W Jefferson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90016 from Saturday, September 7th through Saturday, September 28th, 2019
4301 W Jefferson is open every Saturday in September, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Viewings at other times may be scheduled by appointment.
Closing Saturday, September 28, 2 – 6 PM
