East Los Angeles, CA. August 30, 2019 —- The East Los Angeles Women’s Center, a leading voice for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, is proud to announce the return of LUNAFEST®, a national traveling film festival, on Sept. 12, at the Downtown Independent Theater. LUNAFEST is dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, championing women filmmakers, and bringing women together to support local women’s causes. The film fest will support the East Los Angeles Women’s Center (xxxx) programs.
In addition to the eight short films included in the 2019 festival, East Los Angeles Women’s Center will screen Soledad de Los Incendios, a supernatural drama about a migrant family in a state of mourning unleashes mystical powers, directed by Daniel Eduvijes Carrerra.
Melinna Bobadilla, best known for her recent work on the hit series Orange Is The New Black, will lead a Q + A discussion with the film directors and writers including Daniel Eduvijes Carrera, Jana Diaz Juhl, & Katrella Kindred.
All proceeds from LUNAFEST LA will benefit the East Los Angeles Women’s Center’s core programs and the emergency shelter located at LAC+USC Medical Center, serving survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, and HIV/AIDS. LUNAFEST is presented by the nutrition bar company LUNA®.
