Rod Stewart went full-on cheese in the ’80s — this much is undeniable. And then there was that insufferable pseudo-soul period in the ’90s. So it’s easy to forget that, prior to all that, he was a genuinely thrilling, rag-tag blues-rocker. With The Faces, alongside Ronnie Wood (now of the Stones), he made some unforgettable music, not least “Stay With Me” — one of the great anthems of the 1970s. His early days as a solo artist also yielded some wonderful results. Those days are long gone, but Rod the Mod usually plays a career-spanning set, so at least some of it will be magnificent. The seemingly ageless Cyndi Lauper, meanwhile, has lost none of her magic. Her voice still sounds incredible, and in the live arena, she belts out her pop-rock anthems like a newbie on the scene. A tantalizing double bill, all told. Also Tuesday, June 26.
