The times they are a-changin’ in the world of classical music. Gone are the days when classical music and opera were the exclusive province of the rich and only performed in fancy concert halls and exclusive salons. Much of the local revolution in new music has been instigated by artistic director Yuval Sharon and the experimental opera company The Industry, who have found new relevance in old music forms with such adventurously staged works as Crescent City and Invisible Cities. In 2015, The Industry presented the opera Hopscotch in a series of moving cars and public spaces. Tonight, Sharon welcomes Maria Elena Altany, Justine Aronson, Cedric Berry, David Castillo, Ashley Faatoalia, Suzanna Guzmán and other new company members, who will sing pieces by modern composers, in a fundraiser performance. Barnsdall Gallery Theatre, 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Los Feliz; Sun., Sept. 23, 5 p.m.; $50 & $250. (323) 644-6272, theindustryla.org.
