There are easily several dozen folks in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame who never wrote a single pop song as clever and catchy as anything in Harry Nilsson’s oeuvre, and it’s an ongoing shame that the stern corporate gatekeepers who run the hall have failed to recognize the idiosyncratic tunefulness of the late L.A.-based songwriter on such memorable pop opuses as “One” and “Coconut,” not to mention his hit versions of Fred Neil’s “Everybody’s Talkin’?” and Badfinger’s “Without You.” Tonight, just about the entire local power-pop scene — as well as Harry’s talented son Zak Nilsson — will be on hand to celebrate Nilsson’s music. Performers range from ubiquitous pop band The Walker Brigade to the quietly incisive and relatively reclusive singer-keyboardist Carolyn Soyars (3D Picnic, Spindle), along with Teresa Cowles, Steve Stanley, Todd Lawrence, Jason Berk, Anny Celsi, Stephen Kalinich and a dozen others.
