“No god can find a piece we lost, can save us from these storms in a tea cup that are drowning me,” Gin Wigmore insists on “Hallow Fate,” from her latest album, Ivory. The New Zealand singer takes on fate and the other mighty forces that oppose her with a bluesy defiance. She gets kind of funky on “Beatnik Trip” before opening up her lungs to full power on the hard-rocking “Dirty Mercy.” Wigmore is just as forthright and bold even when she changes gears on the funk-pop dance track “Cabrona.” “Give me a day drinking naked on the kitchen floor,” she declares on the relatively restrained ballad “Cold Cave.” But whether she’s rocking hard or dialing down the intensity occasionally, Wigmore belts it all out in her distinctively raw voice with a fiery, sassy assurance.
