Farhang Foundation presents its 11th annual celebration of Nowruz, the Iranian new year, at UCLA. The daylong spectacle includes traditional musicians, dancers from Firuze Dance Company and Djanbazian Dance Company, a Persian tea house, Negar Estakhr’s puppet show, a spring parade, and a Haft-sin display. The festival culminates in a concert by Iranian soprano Darya Dadvar, who, besides singing in multiple languages, torches classical Iranian music with an operatic fervor. Her stirring vocals infuse operatic arias and French chansons alike with traces of blues, jazz and world music.
