Progressive arts organization Fulcrum Arts partners with the ArtCenter and Pitzer College to present the free interdisciplinary symposium Free Radicals: On the Provocations of Awe, at ArtCenter this weekend — and Pasadena is a fitting location for the program, as the city has always occupied a critical cultural and geographical nexus of modern art, futuristic science, institutional wisdom, and ages-old esoterica.

Across two days of artist talks, performances, screenings, conversations, and multimedia presentations, topics examined include but are not limited to virtual reality, space science, botany, and robotics — all entertained with a special arts-friendly point of view on the science, and vice versa.

Free Radicals partners Fulcrum Arts AxS (art + science) initiative with LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous), and the eclectic presenters include keynote speaker theoretical cosmologist Janna Levin, Rana Adhikari, Bill Anthes, I.R. Bach, Nancy Baker Cahill, Beatriz Cortez, Ciara Ennis, Tom Hall, Ian Ingram, Karen Lofgren, Kyle McDonald, Rebeca Mendez, Chris Parks, Archie Prakash, Brittany Ransom, Christopher Richmond, Sasha Samochina, Jana Winderen, The World in a Cell, and Jenny Yurshansky.

ArtCenter College of Design, 1700 Lida St., Pasadena; Saturday & Sunday, November 9-10, 10am-5pm; free with RSVP. fulcrumarts.org/free-radicals-on-the-provocations-of-awe.
