After three days at 0% containment, fire crews made progress on the 1,325-acre Palisades Fire, getting it to 23% containment, as of Monday night.

The evacuation orders that had been given in Topanga Canyon over the weekend were lifted Monday, and fire officials said there have been no deaths, no structures lost and one injury to a firefighter that was described as “minor” by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).

“As a result of successful firefighting efforts, all evacuation orders in Topanga will be lifted at 6:00 p.m. this evening,” L.A. County Fire said Monday. “Topanga Canyon Blvd. will be open to residents only beginning at 6:00 p.m. Residents should be prepared to show their ID or Topanga Access Card.”

LAFD first responded to the Pacific Palisades brush fire Friday at 10 p.m., and was located in a part of the canyon that made it difficult for firefighters to battle. By Saturday morning, the fire’s estimated size was 15 acres, but by 4:30 p.m., had quickly grown to 750 acres.

On Sunday morning, the fire grew up to 1,325 acres and has stayed at that mark as more than 500 members of LAFD, L.A. County Fire and CAL Fire have used their resources to battle the blaze.

The fire was still at 0% containment Monday morning, until LAFD made its final report for the day at 9:16 p.m., saying crews got the fire 23% contained.

“We do anticipate being on scene the next several days until we achieve 100% containment,” LAFD Fire Chief Terrazas said. “It truly takes all public agencies, law and fire, to deal with these large-scale brush fires.”

Over the weekend, the Citizen App, which is a location-based social media app that also gives local news updates, offered a $30,000 reward to find the arson suspect. The app, however, posted an incorrect photo, leading people to look for the wrong suspect.

The man in the photo was previously questioned by police and later let go.

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that the actual arson suspect had been arrested and was receiving medical attention for smoke inhalation.

“That person is in custody, but we’re not releasing anything more about that as it is a pending investigation,” Garcetti said of the suspect.
