Although slated to open the 1st of May, the second Euro Pane soft opened today. Baker-owner Sumi Chang says she's just testing things out until the café has its formal opening next Monday, with pastries, coffee, and a simple lunch menu. The bakery goes with the grain of this pretty awesome family table, offering many whole grain items, including whole-wheat croissants, whole-wheat crust pizza and lots of grainy loaves of bread. A new fleet of baristas and bakers will be manning the store, but we imagine it won't be long until Euro Pane West has its own set of regulars, perhaps drifting east from Old Town or sneaking south from Pasadena City Hall. For those migrating north from the campus of CalTech, who understand exactly why Chang's lavender macarons make one's jaw ache with pleasure, or how the egg salad sends the stomach to a place usually reserved for the heart, the original bakery remains the same.
