34-Year-Old Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Collision near Shaw Avenue

FIREBAUGH, CA (August 10, 2022) – Wednesday evening, 34-year-old Esmerelda Raygoza was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 33.

The deadly incident happened around 9:50 p.m., near Shaw Avenue. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.

Investigators say Raygoza was driving a Hyundai south on the highway, when she veered across the center divider into oncoming lanes. As a result, she collided head-on with a northbound Freightliner.

The impact of the crash ejected Raygoza from the Hyundai onto the road. Despite life-saving efforts, medics pronounced Raygoza dead at the scene.

The Freightliner driver, who was hauling tomatoes, remained uninjured. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still currently underway.
