On January 31, 22-year-old Ernesto Viagomez was shot on the corner Santa Monica Boulevard and Ardmore Avenue in East Hollywood.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Viagomez walked out of a liquor store and was confronted by a gang members around 8:30 p.m. He was shot in front of the store, according to Ed Winter of the coroner's office.

LAPD officials said Viagomez, a Cudahy resident, died several hours later at County-USC Medical Center.

The shooting occurred in a very busy section of Santa Monica Boulevard, where multiple restaurants, a market, auto-shops and Ramona Elementary school are all located within a two block radius.

At the time of the killing, investigators said they had no description of the shooter.
