Two-Vehicle Collision near East Avenue R Left Two Fatalities

PALMDALE, CA (January 10, 2023) – Thursday afternoon, Ericka Gonzalez and Esmeralda Rangel were pronounced dead following a collision at 100th Street East. The collision reportedly happened on January 5th, at around 2:40 p.m., at 100th Street East and East Avenue R. According to the CHP, a white GMC pickup truck and a red Hyundai Venue compact SUV were the vehicles involved in the incident. Preliminary investigations showed that the GMC broadsided the Hyundai, for reasons currently unknown, which caused the deaths of 26-year-old Gonzales and 23-year-old Rangel. Furthermore, the GMC driver was assessed for impairment and subsequently was arrested by the officers. The surrounding area was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and further investigations.
