55-Year-Old Man Dies in Big-Rig Accident on South Avenue D in Lancaster

LANCASTER, CA (March 9, 2021 ) – Monday night, 55-year-old Eric Buchanan was killed in a big-rig accident on Sierra Highway.

Lancaster Police Officers first arrived to the scene around 9:40 p.m., just south of Avenue D. Although, the events leading up to the crash remain unclear.

Buchanan was heading south in his 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he veered to the northbound lanes and struck a tractor trailer.

The tractor trailer was reportedly driven by Juan Gomez, of Mexicali who was able to avoid serious injury. However, due to the impact of the crash, Buchanan was later pronounced on scene.

In addition, investigators also say Buchanan was driving at about 55 miles per hour at the time of the incident. Officers do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.

At this time, an active investigation is still underway. Once available, more information will be released to the public.
