Just when it seemed that Los Angeles might have all of San Francisco's coffee riches and more in the four block span of Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Equator Books, LA's Blue Bottle Coffee source, has closed.

Equator moved into the neighborhood over five years ago and has since become a popular destination for literary events, rare books and records, and recently, one of the few places in Los Angeles to find a cup of Blue Bottle Coffee. Luckily, Forage restaurant, which opened in Silver Lake last week is now serving the NorCal-roasted beans, so although you can no longer get a cup of Bella Donavan to sip as you stroll down the boardwalk, at least you don't have to drive 370 miles to get it. That said, the bookstore's closure will leave an obvious gap in the Westside's literary scene. Abbot Kinney won't be the same without it.
