Even though the last full day of summer is Sept. 21, the Los Angeles Police Department's “end of summer” DUI crackdown kicks off tonight. Cops are gearing up for the season's traditional closing holiday, Labor Day, Sept 5.

That means that extra cops and checkpoints will be waiting for you out there from tonight through Labor Day weekend.

“This Labor Day weekend, families and friends will be celebrating the end of the summer,” according to an LAPD statement. “Sadly, this festive time has also become a dangerous time for America’s roads, as many drunk and drugged drivers get behind the wheel after celebrating. For this reason, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is partnering with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to stop drunk and drugged drivers, and help save lives.”

The department says warning the public about its specific operations might save lives by dissuading people who have had one too many from getting behind the wheel. Here's your information, via the LAPD and other agencies:

Tonight from 6 pm. to midnight, a checkpoint will be awaiting your arrival at Florence Avenue and Main Street in South L.A.

Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., a checkpoint will be up and running at La Brea and Melrose avenues in the Fairfax district.

Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., a checkpoint will be waiting for you on Olympic Boulevard at Westlake Avenue in the Westlake district.

Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., officers will be operating a checkpoint at Sepulveda Boulevard and Parthenia Street in North Hills.

Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., sheriff's deputies will be running a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city of Palmdale.

Tonight from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., a sheriff's checkpoint will be waiting for you at an undisclosed location in the city of Lancaster.

Tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., Pasadena police will be running a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in their fair city.

Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., a checkpoint will be happening at La Brea Avenue and 20th Street in Mid-City.

Sunday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., extra cops will be on the streets of LAPD's Mission Division area in the San Fernando Valley. The department calls this a DUI saturation patrol.

Thursday from 4 p.m. to midnight, a saturation patrol will hit LAPD's Hollenbeck Division area on the Eastside. 

Thursday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., a saturation patrol will strike in LAPD's Olympic Division area, which includes Koreatown.
