The Skirball’s current exhibit Light & Noir: Exiles and Emigres in Hollywood, 1933-1950 examines the role of mostly German directors, producers, actors and composers who escaped the Nazi regime and worked in Hollywood during its Golden Age. As a nod to salons where emigres gathered “as a way of staying connected and exchanging ideas,” the museum organizes this panel discussion with Vincent Brook, author of the 2009 book Driven to Darkness: Jewish Émigré Directors and the Rise of Film Noir. Also in attendance will be Bob Koster, son of German director Henry Koster, and Arianne Ulmer-Cipes, daughter of Austrian director Edgar G. Ulmer.
