Elderly Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run on International Boulevard
OAKLAND, CA (June 6, 2022) – 73-year-old Emelia Martinez was killed Tuesday night, in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash on 16th Avenue.
The incident happened around 5:33 p.m., along 16th Avenue at International Boulevard. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.
As per reports, a mid-90s white Hummer SUV struck Martinez who was crossing the intersection in a marked crosswalk. Upon impact, the driver fled northbound on 16th Avenue without stopping and rendering aid to the victim.
Despite life-saving efforts, Martinez was later pronounced dead at the hospital. At this time, authorities said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal crash.
Oakland police ask anyone with information to reach them at 510-777-8570. Meanwhile, an active investigation is underway.
