Mother and Son Hospitalized after Pedestrian Hit-and-Run near 80th Street

FLORENCE, CA (October 20, 2022) – Saturday, Elsa Zelaya and her 3-year-old son Dominick Zelaya sustained injuries in a crash on Broadway.

Police responded to the scene near 80th Street on October 1st.

Officers say the driver a black compact SUV was heading north on Broadway at more than 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

There, the SUV struck Elsa Zelaya and her son who were crossing the street at the time. The involved driver then fled the scene without stopping to assist the victims.

The crash left Elsa with minor injuries, but her son, Dominick, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. According to officials, their current condition is unknown at this time.

Moreover, authorities ask anyone with information about the crash to call LAPD’s South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500.

The city of Los Angeles has set a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the resolution of the hit-and-run on Broadway.

Drivers can avoid causing accidents by driving defensively and considering the conditions of the road. Do not engage in any non-driving activities which have the potential to create a distraction.
