33-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Crash near 186th Street

LOS ANGELES, CA (January 28, 2022) – Police are investigating the crash on Vermont Avenue that killed Elizabeth Ruiz, late Friday evening.

According to reports, the incident happened around 11:00 p.m., when a vehicle struck Ruiz while she was crossing Vermont Avenue, just north of 186th Street.

Investigators later claimed that a “black, early-model, medium-sized sedan” hit the woman while traveling north on Vermont Avenue. However, the involved driver did not render aid and fled the scene before authorities arrived.

Eventually, first responders arrived and declared 33-year-old Ruiz, of Gardena dead at the scene.

Detectives put up a reward of up to $50,000 to anyone who can provide the information leading to the hit-and-run suspect.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the South Traffic Division at 323-421-2500.
