Wrong-Way Collision on Interstate 80 Ends in Fatality

RENO, NV (August 3, 2021) – Elizabeth Andrews, 39, of Sparks, died Wednesday morning after a wrong-way accident on Interstate 80.

The tragic accident occurred on westbound I-80 near the Boomtown exit. Officers arrived shortly before 3:30 a.m., on July 28.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Andrews collided head-on with another vehicle on the highway. Despite life-saving efforts, Andrews was pronounced dead on scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the other vehicle received minor injuries. However, there has been no update on their current condition.

According to responding officers, debris from the crash also struck a large big-rig.

Officials closed the road for nearly 4 hours while crews worked to clear the crash scene.

Authorities are investigating whether an impairment is the primary cause of the accident. More information will be released once available.
