It's official: Electric Daisy Carnival is taking over the planet. After already expanding into Mexico, Puerto Rico, the U.K. and, later this year, Brazil, Insomniac's flagship EDM festival will cross the Pacific in 2016 for its first iteration in Japan.

No word yet on where exactly EDC will plant its flag in the Land of the Rising Sun, or how large the festival will be. While the biggest Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas attracts roughly 135,000 attendees for each of its three days, EDC U.K., now in its third year, draws only about 40,000. The attendance at the second annual EDC Mexico, which took place Feb. 28 and March 1, was estimated to be around 50,000 per day.

Based in Beverly Hills, Insomniac has produced more than 250 festivals throughout its 20-year history, making it one of the oldest and most prolific dance music event promoters in the world. The company, which is owned by Live Nation, also produces numerous other Southern California EDM festivals, including Nocturnal Wonderland, Escape and this weekend's the Voyage, hosted by Swedish house duo Dada Life at San Manuel Amphitheater.
