Multi-Vehicle Crash near Cleveland Avenue Kills Los Banos Man

MADERA, CA (August 19, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle crash on Highway 99 that killed an elderly man on Tuesday.

Dispatchers responded to the scene around 5:18 p.m., after receiving reports of a serious collision near Cleveland Avenue.

According to reports, an 84-year-old Los Banos man was heading south on the highway when he attempted to avoid a box truck that stopped on the same lane.

As a result, the driver veered right and struck the side of the box truck before coming to a stop and landing in an embankment.

Officer say the 84-year-old Los Banos man died at the scene, due to the extent of his condition.

Meanwhile, the driver of the box truck remained uninjured and stayed at the scene to cooperate with the responding officers.

At this time, Madera County Officials continue to withhold the identities of the involved drivers.

The two-vehicle crash remains under active investigation.
