Not long after it was revealed that Fashion District store Barabas Men was selling versions of two blue paisley dress shirts like ones worn by the recaptured Mexican drug kingpin, the retailer was down to just a few, a representative told us.
She said that a new shipment would be coming in a “couple weeks,” so hang on, you kingpin wannabes.
In a Facebook post, the store calls El Chapo's a “most wanted” look. Get it?
It was reported that El Chapo was captured in his home state of Sinaloa last week by the Mexican Navy after authorities south of the border tracked the kingpin's meetings with Penn and actress Kate del Castillo.
Before the Rolling Stone piece was published over the weekend, it also was reported that Guzmán's desire to produce a Hollywood biopic about himself helped lead authorities to his location.
He escaped from a Mexican prison last summer by using an elaborate tunnel to reach freedom.
In the long and self-indulgent piece by Penn, the billionaire drug cartel boss says, “I supply more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world. I have a fleet of submarines, airplanes, trucks and boats.”
Though he's been mythologized by some in Mexico — despite a trail of tears and horrific drug-war deaths — we still don't get the shirts.
