More than 80 people were arrested, most for suspected drug offenses, at an Exposition Park rave over the weekend, police said. The number of injuries was hard to calculate because the promoter used private ambulance crews to help treat and transport patients.

The Love Festival was billed as the 18th annual edition of the party. It took place Saturday at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, with an estimated 4,100 in attendance — a far cry from the 160,000 people police estimated were at the controversial Electric Daisy Carnival rave at the adjacent Coliseum in June.

County and city officials called for a review of future raves at public venues following that event's gatecrashing, more than 200 medical emergencies, about 60 arrests and, especially, the subsequent death of a 15-year-old who was apparently under the influence of ecstasy at the party.

However, after the Coliseum Commission took a second look at the events at the Coliseum and Sports Arena, it decided to let those that were already scheduled and under contract to go forward. One of those was Love Festival.

That event's high number of arrests compared to EDC might be attributed to a crackdown on minors. It was an 18-and-older party — per the commission's new orders — and some of those arrested were cited for having fake IDs.
