41-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Collision near 53rd Street

LONG BEACH, CA (April 24, 2023) – Friday night, Edward Corral was fatally struck in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Atlantic Avenue.

Police responded to the scene around 9:15 p.m., near 53rd Street on April 14th.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Corral attempted to cross Atlantic Avenue outside of a marked crosswalk. There, the driver of a passing vehicle struck him and immediately fled the scene.

The impact pushed 41-year-old Corral into a concrete median where he suffered serious injuries, including head-trauma, swelling of the brain, broken legs, broken ribs and broken hips.

Medics admitted him into an ICU where he was later pronounced brain dead. The family then made the decision to cut of life-supporting measures. According to his wife, Similina Alaimalo, Corral was a father of five with ages from 4 to 19 years old.

At this time, police are still searching for the suspect.
