Deadly 2-Vehicle Head-On Crash on Highway 43 in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 19, 2021) Eda Yadira Rojas-Joachin died and two others sustained injuries Tuesday morning after a deadly head-on crash on Highway 43.

The accident happened shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Highway 43, just north of Interstate 5.

According to the CHP, a 41-year-old Taft man was driving a 2010 Chevrolet northbound on Highway 43 when he allowed the vehicle to cross into the opposite lane for unknown reasons and crashed into a southbound 2004 Chevrolet.

Authorities later identified 48-year-old Eda Yadira Rojas-Joachin as the female passenger in the 2004 Chevy who died at the scene.

Meanwhile, medics rushed the driver of the 2004 Chevy  and 2010 Chevy to Kern Medical Center. The driver of the 2010 Chevy also suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.

In addition, police closed the surrounding area for cleanup and preliminary duties. However, the road has since reopened.

At this time, police have not released any additional information. An active investigation is underway.
