The end of August is high season for stone fruit in Southern California, with peaches in particular loading the stalls of L.A. farmers markets. Peaches, pluots, plums and more peaches, including the prized O'Henrys, which are only available for a few short weeks. In fact the folks at Tenerelli Orchards, who brought their O'Henrys to the Wednesday Santa Monica farmers market yesterday for the first time, said that theirs would be gone by next Wednesday. Best load up this weekend. Put any extra ripe peaches in pies, in your kid's lunch, or halve and pit them and put them into the freezer for use in smoothies or bellinis. Assuming you don't eat them all on the way home from the market. Check out our pictorial shopping list.
