A Boyle Heights location used regularly for raves and after-hours parties has been effectively shut down after neighbors complained to police and Eastside City Councilman Jose Huizar.

Eastern Group Publications reports that the last party at the location at 650 S. Clarence St. was broken up last month by Los Angeles police after a small group of residents demonstrated at the location, using the slogan, “Party in your own community.”

The July 17 rave just blocks from the Pico Gardens Public Housing complex appears to have been the last for the venue, even though the promoters said they had permits, according to the publication.

The shutdown appears to be the latest antirave fallout from June's Electric Daisy Carnival at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It saw some rowdiness, the subsequent death of a 15-year-old patron who appeared to have taken ecstasy, and second thoughts among city and county officials about holding such events at public venues.

Councilman Jose Huizar's office raised red flags about the Clarence Street location after hearing from concerned neighbors.

“Councilmember Huizar supported the community and did not want this type of venue in Boyle Heights, which he felt was disruptive to the community and potentially dangerous to the young people in attendance,” Huizar's spokesman, Rick Coca, stated to EGP News. “The councilmember wants to promote responsible businesses in CD-14 that contribute to the economic development of the city while respecting the quality of life of our residents. This operation did not fit that model.”
