Eagle Rock Is One of America's 'Hottest Neighborhoods'

Northeast Los Angeles has been on hipster overload in recent years. Highland Park and Atwater Village are L.A.'s new buzzwords for gentrification, not to mention Echo Park and Silver Lake (which are so last decade).

Now the real estate website Redfin has come up with its list of “Hottest Neighborhoods of 2014,” and Eagle Rock almost took the whole American enchilada.

… Bernal Heights, which “has the small-town feel while still being in San Francisco,” the site states.

As for No. 2 Eagle Rock, well, you all know it by now. Last year Conde Nast Traveler named York Boulevard, which runs between Eagle Rock and Highland Park, “L.A.'s Coolest Street.”

Yeah.

We're a little sickened by all the proclamations about how cool L.A. is –  many coming from the East Coast. But at least Redfin is basing its judgment on more than just the opinion of a condescending New York editor.

The site had a rationale:

Redfin looked at 21 top metro areas and the neighborhood ranks for total pageviews and Favorites (the heart button) on homes on Redfin.com between September and December 2013. We then compared those 2013 ranks with the corresponding neighborhood ranks in 2012. The final rankings looked at how far the neighborhoods jumped up the charts and how close they got to the No. 1 spot.

Eagle Rock, of course, has “many great shops, bars and restaurants on Colorado Boulevard,” the site notes:

Eagle Rock has grown increasingly popular because it has so much to offer. Even though you're in the Los Angeles area, it has a small-town feel; you'll find well-kept homes often full of charm and character on mature tree-lined streets.

The flip side of this adoration, though, is that you probably can no longer afford to live in Eagle Rock.
