Invites for a gallery lecture featuring a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power board member and its director of water resources were apparently changed to exclude DWP logos after the agency protested, according to the Chance of Rain water conservation blog.

The lecture at G2 Gallery in Venice was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The speakers include DWP board member Jonathan Parfrey and director of water resources Thomas Erb. Parfey's lecture is called “An Arid Yet Verdant Land” and Erb's is called “How LADWP Sustains America's Second-Largest City.”

The blog states that “evidently the G2 Gallery had to re-issue invitations after the DWP let it know that it could not use the department's logo.”

Strange: We've seen the logo on promotional materials in the past. And, here, two of its highest leaders are representing its operations and aspirations to the people it serves. Are they not speaking officially for the department? And here's an issue: The DWP logo is public information, part of the public domain, and paid for with public money. That's why we used it for this post. Proudly. (Try and stop us).

For its part, the Chance of Rain blog has made some fair use of the DWP's logo too.
