An El Niño storm was expected to strike Los Angeles late this weekend.

But it looks like Hurricane Popo will get here first. The Los Angeles Police Department and other agencies will be back on the streets in the hunt for drunk drivers.

They're giving us details about their operations with the hope that at least some of you will wise up and think before you drink and get behind the wheel.

Here's the info:

-Tonight from 4 p.m. to midnight, extra police will hit the streets of the LAPD's Central Bureau area, which includes downtown, just south of downtown, Boyle Heights, Westlake and more.

-Tonight from 6 to 11 p.m., a DUI checkpoint will be awaiting your arrival on Vernon Avenue at Figueroa Street in South Los Angeles.

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., a checkpoint will be up and running at Fairfax and Melrose avenues in the Fairfax district.

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., the LAPD will be operating a checkpoint on Western Avenue and Eighth Street in sober Koreatown.

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., a checkpoint will be lurking on Ventura Boulevard at Columbus Avenue in Sherman Oaks.

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., the LAPD will be running a checkpoint on Parthenia Street and Sepulveda Boulevard in North Hills.

-Saturday from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., a checkpoint will be waiting for you at an undisclosed intersection in the city of West Hollywood.
