This weekend's DUI crackdown in the city of Los Angeles will be a little bit lighter than usual.

Police will have their hands full with other things, including May Day and janitors' demonstrations downtown.

Also, that quintessentially Angeleno beer holiday known as Cinco de Mayo is coming next week. Cops will have to rest up.

Stay tuned for our info on Cinco DUI operations.

The Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement that in the last three years it has counted “7,048 DUI-related traffic collisions in Los Angeles, which have resulted in 60 fatalities and 2,818 injuries.”

These checkpoints are an attempt to dissuade drivers from getting behind the wheel after one too many.

Here's the 411 circulated by area authorities:

-Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. a Los Angeles Sheriff's Department checkpoint will be up and running at an undisclosed location in Palmdale.

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. a checkpoint will be awaiting your arrival on Ventura Boulevard at Kester Avenue in Sherman Oaks.

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. a checkpoint will be happening on South La Brea Avenue at Washington Boulevard in marvelous Mid-City.

Be safe.
