We like to rib the LAPD for staging DUI checkpoints in communities that seem to have easy pickins. The department has been accused in the past of using its checkpoints to impound the cars (for cash) of illegal immigrants, who can't get licenses and are thus subject to such reaming.

But the department this year changed its policy: Unlicensed drivers who have a licensed friend or relative nearby can keep their cars.

And now this: The diversification of DUI checkpoints?

This weekend's drunk stops include one in South L.A. (shooting fish in a barrel has far as unlicensed, undocumented drivers go) and one in (gasp) Sherman Oaks?

Yep. Sherman Oaks. Way to finally embrace diversity, LAPD. Here then, is your DUI checkpoint tip sheet for the weekend.

-Tonight, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., Manchester Boulevard between Broadway and South Figueroa Street.
