The L.A. County Sheriff's Department says an end-of-summer DUI crackdown, involving the California Highway Patrol and local police, is coming to a roadway near you.
The fun starts today and lasts through the end of Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2, according to the department. While the crackdown involves extra patrols on the street, there will also be DUI checkpoints waiting for you this weekend in Malibu, Santa Monica and La Mirada (info on the next page). Sayeth the sheriff's department:
During the crackdown period, there will be an increase in law enforcement presence on the roads, including additional officers and DUI checkpoints throughout the state, and those caught driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested.
–Tonight from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. there will be a DUI checkpoint set up somewhere in Malibu, deputies say (they're not telling us exactly where).
-Also tonight: Santa Monica police will have a drunk-driver checkpoint operating “at an undisclosed location within the city limits,” according to a statement from that city's cops.
–Saturday starting at 8 p.m. there will be a checkpoint somewhere in lovely La Mirada, sheriff's officials say. They're not saying where. And they're not saying how long it will last.
Be careful out there.
