We know what you're thinking:

You're still hung over from St. Patrick's Day. Understandable. But the LAPD doesn't give you hangover breaks. The department will be back on the DUI beat this weekend, starting tonight.

And cops will be paying special attention to that clubland community we call Hollywood:

–Tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. there will be extra police cars and motorcycles looking for drunk drivers on the streets of the LAPD's Hollywood Division. The department calls it a “saturation patrol.”

–Friday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be a DUI checkpoint on Hollywood Boulevard at Bronson Avenue.



–Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. another LAPD checkpoint will be operating on Sepulveda Boulevard and Western Avenue in Harbor Gateway.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says that more than 571 people were arrested on suspicion of DUI in the county over the St. Patrick's Day weekend, by the way.

So why do cops warn you about the checkpoints? By law they have to give you some heads-up. But here's the LAPD's take on the matter:

Research shows that traffic collisions involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.
